Amman Airport Transfer: What to Expect at Queen Alia

Queen Alia International Airport is about 35 km south of central Amman, and the drive usually takes 35 to 50 minutes depending on traffic and your hotel.

Avoid unlicensed drivers. Drivers often approach arriving passengers inside the terminal, offering rides that aren’t licensed. With a pre-booked Amman airport transfer, your chauffeur waits in the arrivals hall with a name board, and your fixed price is confirmed before you fly.

Visa and immigration time are covered. Depending on your nationality, visa formalities and passport control can take a while. We track your flight and adjust your pickup to when you actually reach arrivals, with no extra charge for delays.

The airport is on the way south. Queen Alia sits south of Amman, beside the Desert Highway. If you’re heading to Petra, Wadi Rum or Aqaba, you can go straight from the airport without driving into the city first.

Check flight information on the official Queen Alia International Airport website before you travel.

Approximate travel times from Queen Alia International Airport:

AMM to central Amman (Abdali, Shmeisani, Jabal Amman) — about 35 km, around 35 to 50 minutes.

AMM to Abdoun and West Amman hotels — around 35 to 45 minutes.

AMM to the Dead Sea resorts — about 55 to 65 km, around 1 hour.

AMM to Petra (Wadi Musa) — about 210 km, around 2 hours 30 minutes via the Desert Highway.

AMM to Wadi Rum Visitor Centre — around 3 hours 30 minutes to 4 hours.

AMM to Aqaba — about 330 km, around 3 hours 30 minutes to 4 hours.

Allow extra time at rush hour and on Thursday evenings. Every Amman airport transfer is quoted as a fixed price for the route and vehicle, so traffic never changes what you pay.

Sedan and Van Options for Your Amman Airport Transfer

Jordan’s best sights are hours apart, so the right vehicle makes a real difference to your trip.

Executive sedan. Best for one to three passengers with standard luggage. Ideal for business travel in Amman, couples, and quick transfers to the Dead Sea.

Passenger van. Best for families, groups and tour parties with plenty of luggage. Everyone travels together, there’s room for suitcases and camera gear, and the long drives to Petra and Wadi Rum feel shorter with the extra space.

Tell us your group size and number of suitcases when you book, and we’ll confirm whether a sedan, a van or more than one vehicle suits you best.

Dead Sea Transfers

The Dead Sea is the lowest point on Earth, and its resorts are about an hour from the airport. Give us the full name of your hotel or beach when you book, because resorts along the shore have separate entrances. We take you straight to the door of your resort.

Petra, Wadi Rum and Aqaba

Many travellers go straight from the airport to Petra. An Amman airport transfer to Wadi Musa takes about 2 hours 30 minutes on the fast Desert Highway.

For a slower, more scenic journey, the King’s Highway passes Madaba’s mosaics, Karak Castle, the Wadi Mujib canyon and the Dana Nature Reserve on the way south. It takes considerably longer, so we plan it as a day of sightseeing, with your chauffeur waiting at each stop.

Wadi Rum. Private vehicles aren’t allowed inside the Wadi Rum Protected Area. We take you to the Wadi Rum Visitor Centre, where your camp’s 4×4 collects you for the desert. Petra to Wadi Rum is about 110 km, around 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours.

Aqaba. Jordan’s Red Sea city is about 3 hours 30 minutes to 4 hours from Amman. Wadi Rum is only about an hour from Aqaba, so many travellers combine them.

We plan private multi-day itineraries combining Amman, the Dead Sea, Petra, Wadi Rum and Aqaba, with the same chauffeur and vehicle for the whole trip.

Hourly Hire and Sightseeing in Amman

Hourly hire keeps the vehicle and chauffeur with you for as long as you need them. It suits business days with several meetings, and sightseeing at the Amman Citadel and the Temple of Hercules, the Roman Theatre, Rainbow Street and the Downtown souks. Popular day trips include Jerash, Madaba, Mount Nebo and the Baptism Site. A minimum booking period applies, and we confirm the full price when we quote.

Private Aviation Transfers in Amman

Private flights at Queen Alia International Airport are handled separately from the main airline terminal, by operators including JP Jets (Jordanian Private Jets) and Aviation Handling Services (AHS) Jordan.

We provide transfers between the private aviation area and your hotel, residence or onward destination, timed to your aircraft rather than an arrivals board. Share your handler, aircraft tail number and estimated arrival time when you book, and we’ll adjust the pickup if your schedule changes. Our vehicles are unmarked and our chauffeurs never discuss the journeys they carry out.

Black Drive is an independent chauffeur service and is not affiliated with Queen Alia International Airport or any of the operators listed above.
